Resumo

Scientific literature has proven that a high percentage of women prisoners have suffered intimatepartner violence at some point in their lives. In this context, it is necessary to analyse the extent towhich these women have internalised gender stereotypes and roles that promote emotional depen-dence on a male. This paper presents the psychometric study of a scale to measure attitudes towardsgender equality in this population. Statistical analyses of reliability and validity were carried out with366 female inmates in seven Spanish prisons. The results of the exploratory and confirmatory factoranalysis offer a satisfactory solution both in the factorial structure of the scale and in the levelsof internal consistency. Thus, the proposed model can contribute to research in this field and tosocio-educational intervention with female prisoners
