Abstract
This work deals with some of Nélida Piñon’s position takings within the Brazilian literary field in the early 1980s, arising from methodological proposals of the polysystem theory (Even-Zohar) and of field studies (Bordieu). We hypothesize that, despite the author’s preferences towards the novel, short stories are repertoire materials which have gained prestige in her trajectory. Our aim is to analyze the implications that the publication of a new book of short stories (1980) has concerning the author’s own choices and the dynamics of the field, given that the writer herself already counts on a significant symbolic capital and occupies a relatively central position, also visible outside Brazil
