Resumo

The increase in visitors to emerging destinations generates economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts for host societies that must be considered for the planning and sustainable management of the destination. Knowing the perception of residents and especially those most directly affected (local business) offers relevant information to explore the potential benefits of the development of tourism activity and also the imbalances it can cause. In most cases a favorable reaction is understood, as long as the benefits of the sector for the group of agents are perceived as favorable, that is to say that the benefits in terms of income, activity and employment exceed the costs. But, in addition, knowing what is the perception of all the businessmen about the impact of the tourist activity in their locality and their degree of agreement with the official figures, allows to analyze if they are counting well their costs and their benefits. This paper analyzes the perception of the impact of the tourism sector on the development of Fisterra based on the economic and political priorities (short and long term) of the municipality from the perspective of local companies of different economic activities. In a preliminary way we can conclude that entrepreneurs have a low positive perception of the benefits of tourism in the development of Fisterra, although most of them agree that it favors employment, favors synergies in the region and contributes to improving hotel and catering services. This result affects the possibility of undervaluing the costs of tourism activity and especially its relationship with the fishing activity that continues to be the employment alternative for many of the residents in Fisterra
