Resumo
The utilization of the spontaneous vegetation under extensive grazing conditions is limited by a reduced quality of the material on offer and the development of the scrub. In this conditions the grazing animal tries to make a strong seiection, which allows it to ingest a higher quality diet, which varíes in composition with the different types of animáis. Within some limits the net herbage accummulation and the milk or beef productions seem to be lightly affected by the method of grazing, due to the adaptation of the internal sward structure to the management imposed. The effects of the stocking rate, herbage allowance and pasture height are reviewed in their relation to animal production
