Firm and industry effects on samll, medium-sized and large firms performance

Resumen

Este artículo examina si la importancia relativa de los efectos de la empresa y la industria para explicar las variaciones de desempeño es la misma independientemente del tamaño de la empresa. En relación al tamaño, pensamos que se ha descuidado especialmente el estudio de las empresas medianas por separado de las pymes en general. Por eso estudiamos por separado las empresas grandes, medianas y pequeñas. También contribuimos al conocimiento sobre el debate empresa-industria probando empíricamente ambos efectos distinguiendo las empresas por tamaño según una clasificación estándar en la UE. Nuestros resultados muestran que el desempeño de las empresas grandes y pequeñas se explica principalmente por el efecto empresa, aunque por diferentes razones, mientras que el desempeño de las empresas medianas se explica principalmente por el efecto industria.
