Resumo

A previous research work in attitudes towards public transportation (Arce et al., 1996) proved that the attributes used by the population to judge public transportation means could be summarized in three dimensions: Prestige, Comfort and Safety. The objetive of this study has been to analyze the differences in the evaluation of urban buses depending on sex, age and the fact of being an urban bus user or not. Data gathered for the three dimensions mentioned above were analyzed separately. The results show significant differences in the degree of prestige, comfort and safety expressed by the compared groups in relation to the urban bus. It has also been observed that prestige and comfort mean scores were low, while scores on safety were relatively higher.
