Abstract
Current educational research needs to respond to the challenge of giving voice and protagonism to childhood as an important part of society. Consideration of a child’s “look” in educational research is presented as an emerging trend in research that, respecting and enforcing the right of children’s participation in the issues that affect their life, makes it possible to reduce the adultcentrism existing in an educational research which tends to pick up the adult’s perspective on children’s experiences. In this chapter we present the self-founding theory as a guiding framework for a research with children that aims to give them voice, presence and protagonism. Different participatory techniques are shown, classified as friends of children, combining visual, oral and written techniques to facilitate the collection of all children’s languages. It also addresses the ethical issues that must be present in the design of an investigation of this draft. We consider that educational research with children and not about children is a poorly developed field of research that presents challenges but also great possibilities that make available to the researcher and the educational community in general a greater knowledge of children, as well as the empowering children as citizens and active and participatory members of the society in which they live, grow and develop.
