Abstract

In this Tehsis the 3D circulation and the energy potential of the marine currents in the Ría de Muros y Noya are studied for the first time. For this purpose, three different numerical models are implemented (two 3D models and one 2DH model) which are able to take into account all the relevant forcing factors: the tide, the river discharges, the wind and the thermohaline conditions. The models solve the continuity and momentum equations (Navier-Stokes) together with the transport equations and thus are able to solve the baroclinic flows. The models are validated with in situ measuments of water levels, current velocity and salinity profiles obtained by means of the most advanced techniques (Acoustic Doppler Profiler, CTD ...). Once validated, the 3D models are used to characterize the circulation patters in the Ría de Muros in several cases of interest in order to define the hydrodynamics of this complex system. Finally the 2DH model is used to study the energy potential of the marine currents. With this aim a detailed map of the available energy is perfomed, and on its basis, a location for the installation of an operation proposed.
